Dental Veneers in Naples, FL

Dr. Paola Suglio

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are an aesthetic restorative treatment that we use to enhance your smile by improving the color, shape, size, and overall appearance of your teeth.

Veneers are thin restorations that cover the front surface of your teeth, which is the part you see when you smile. We typically use porcelain or ceramic materials and work with a dental laboratory to design the veneers according to your facial features and smile goals.

When might a dentist recommend veneers?

Veneers may be recommended when you want to improve the appearance of your smile. For example, if your teeth are significantly stained and whitening hasn't provided the results you're looking for, veneers may be an option.

We may also recommend veneers for teeth that are worn down, have minor chips or damage, or need improvements in their shape or size. In certain cases, veneers can restore teeth with limited structural damage, but more extensive decay or damage may require another type of restoration.

What is the difference between a veneer and a crown?

This is a very common question. A veneer is a thin layer of restorative material that covers primarily the front surface of your tooth. You can think of it almost like a covering that's bonded to the visible portion of the tooth.

A crown, on the other hand, covers the tooth much more extensively, typically wrapping around the entire visible portion.

Veneers generally require less tooth preparation than crowns, making them a more conservative option in appropriate cases. However, each treatment has different indications depending on the condition of your tooth and what we're trying to accomplish.

What is the process for placing veneers?

Here at Palm and Pearl Dental, we follow a detailed process because we want to understand your expectations and develop a treatment plan that reflects your smile goals.

We begin by taking intraoral and extraoral photographs, evaluating your bite, and completing a digital scan of your teeth. Using that information, we design a proposed smile and may create a mock-up so you can preview the planned changes before we begin preparing your teeth.

The next step is preparing the teeth to create enough room for the ceramic veneers. Sometimes this requires very minimal preparation, while other cases may require additional enamel removal depending on the tooth's position, shape, and planned restoration.

After preparation, we typically place temporary veneers while the dental laboratory fabricates your permanent restorations. The laboratory uses our treatment plan and the selected shape and shade to create your custom veneers.

At your final appointment, we'll try in the veneers and evaluate their fit, color, shape, and appearance. You'll have an opportunity to see how they look before we permanently bond them to your teeth. If adjustments are needed, we'll discuss those before completing the procedure.

Will veneers and the cement match your natural teeth?

When we're designing veneers, the goal isn't always to match the exact shade of your existing teeth. Many patients choose a lighter shade because they want a brighter smile.

We work with you to select a color that complements your surrounding teeth and overall appearance. The shade of the bonding cement is also important because it can influence the final color of certain ceramic veneers.

We'll evaluate the veneer and cement shades together to achieve the planned appearance before permanently bonding the restorations.

What is the difference between composite and ceramic veneers?

Composite veneers are typically made from tooth-colored resin that's applied and shaped directly on the teeth during your dental appointment. They can be a more conservative option in certain situations and are often easier to repair or modify.

However, composite resin may be more susceptible to staining, wear, and chipping over time. It may also require additional polishing or maintenance to preserve its appearance.

Ceramic or porcelain veneers are custom-fabricated in a dental laboratory. They generally offer excellent color stability, durability, and a highly polished, natural-looking surface.

I often recommend ceramic veneers for patients seeking a longer-term cosmetic solution, but composite veneers can also be appropriate depending on the patient's age, dental development, cosmetic goals, and individual needs.

How do you care for your veneers?

Caring for veneers is very similar to caring for your natural teeth. You should brush twice a day, floss regularly, and keep up with your recommended dental examinations and cleanings.

It's also important to pay attention to your diet and oral habits. Even though porcelain veneers cannot develop cavities themselves, the natural teeth underneath and around them can still experience decay.

Limiting frequent sugary foods and drinks, maintaining good oral hygiene, and avoiding habits such as chewing ice or biting hard objects can help protect your restorations.

Depending on your oral health, we may recommend dental visits every four to six months or another interval appropriate for your needs.

How much do dental veneers cost?

The cost of dental veneers varies depending on several factors, including how many teeth we're treating, the type of material selected, and the complexity of your individual case.

Different ceramic materials and laboratory techniques can also affect the overall cost of treatment.

Here at Palm and Pearl Dental, we offer financing options that may help eligible patients manage the cost of their veneers. During your consultation, we'll discuss your treatment goals, review the recommended options, and provide an estimate before moving forward.
